Women’s fitness after forty can be challenging, but it isn’t impossible. Age does not have to define you.
The actions you take (or not) can have a large impact on the way you look and feel. You are fully capable of taking control back. Put your doubts aside for the time being. There is hope on the horizon once you know what’s going on and what to do about it.
Doable, realistic, un-intimidating solutions even if you’ve never, ever exercised before.
Forty seems to be a magic number that nobody warns us about. It doesn’t have to take over. Women’s fitness after forty isn’t a myth or reserved for rare genetics. The power is in your hands to either let time take its toll, or to take the action that pushes time back, letting you live the quality life that you want.
In my world, there is no “growing old gracefully.” There’s nothing graceful about aging at all. If we do nothing about it, we basically fall apart. We weaken because we lose muscle mass, which leads to poor balance. Because we lose muscle mass, our bones become brittle. Osteoporosis can lead to broken bones (hip is common in older folks) and/or curvature of the spine. Physiological conditions worsen and get weaker too. Chronic ailments like high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol to name few. These are things that can put us at risk for heart disease, heart attack, and stroke. Life altering conditions. But they’re all preventable.
Some people accept them as just part of getting older. But who wants to deal with any of that when it’s totally preventable? It doesn’t make sense to just succumb to time. One of my favorite quotes is by fitness guru, Tony Horton of P90X fame…”You don’t slow down because you age. You age because you slow down.”
